Fri 25 May – Last day at work!

Today was the day, my last day at Schibsted! In the months leading up to today I’d been imagining how I’d feel when I woke up. Hugely excited most likely! I got up and went for a shower. The weather was sunny but raining, which actually described my mood perfectly. On one hand I was happy and so excited that our adventure was finally about to begin for real. On the other hand though I felt quite sad! I’ve met some awesome people at Schbisted, and I was going to miss them. Oddly too I felt I was going to miss the meetings, the PowerPoints, the strategy docs, the 1:1’s with my team, that feeling of being a part of something, you know? Why is it always the case that when you leave something behind, you look back at it through rose tinted glasses?

The day mostly involved saying my goodbyes and reading through the touching replies I’d got to my leaving email. So nice! That email incidentally went through two revisions as the first received a very lukewarm, “yeah, it’s okaaay” from Angela, which by now I know means, “yeah, it’s not great”! 😀

In the afternoon we had cake and cava and I got a couple of great presents from the team. Turns out buying something for someone who lives in a tiny space is pretty challenging but they did a brilliant job. I’ve got my leaving drinks next Wednesday so I’m happy I get to see most of them again.

In the evening I was supposed to go for drinks with Tom and the Typeform crew, but I passed by Corte Inglis on my way home (more storage stuff!) so didn’t fancy lugging 4 bags around all evening. I came back to the boat, Bartek popped around for tea then I went to bed and lay awake (for bloody hours!) listening to the massive thunderstorms rumbling around outside.
