Tue 14 Aug

Today we made the best use of the fact that we’re still moored up on a pontoon and not rocking around, plus having precious 4G! There’s a long list of things that we wanted to get cranking on for savvy navvy, and today was the day where we finally had some time to do it. Camilla managed to work her way through the FAQ’s and the customer life cycle messages, while I spent most of the day trying to improve our maps. It’s amazing how the hours disappear once you’re “in the zone”!

During one of our ‘breaks’ we noticed a guy behind the boat, fishing. The water here looks thick and green so it can’t be the best fishing ground, but each to their own we thought. On watching a little longer we saw he was catching the fish, removing the hook, dropping them on the concrete then rugby kicking them back into the water. This unsurprisingly was killing them leaving their poor little lifeless bodies floating in the water. How barbaric and totally unnecessary!! We started (and revved) the engine which soon got rid of him.

All of a sudden is was past 19:00 and we hadn’t really left the boat yet, so off we went for a little walk. We came across a pharmacy and thought we’d see how much pain would be involved in getting my pills here. Fully prepared for a lengthy discussion about how to go to an emergency doctor, getting a thousand papers, and running from A to B, we entered the pharmacy. To my total surprise the lady behind the counter just nodded, stamped my (Spanish) prescription and handed over half a year worth of pills … YAY! We both tried to act totally cool and not show our excitement, not sure how well we managed.

To celebrate we found a nice little restaurant that advertised “live music”. Just opposite there was a street musician with a bunch of electronics stuffed in a shopping cart playing tunes on his saxophone. We guessed from the somewhat frustrated/angry looks from the restaurant staff that he was nothing to do with them. He did a brilliant job though of convincing the punters that he was, in fact, the “live music”. Good for him, super smart move really! We didn’t mind the extra entertainment and enjoyed a nice pizza as the sun set into a red sky over Olbia.
