Cam & Tom's Sailing Blog

Mon 2 Jul

On the cards today was some serious boat cleaning (there are layers of salt everywhere) plus a few repairs. The day started with trying to understand what was causing the jib not to furl away. We thought we’d lower it so we could take a look, but therein lay the problem, the halyard wound’t drop, it was stuck. Loving any excuse to go up the mast, Tom winched me up so I could take a look. In short there’s a drum-type thing which helps the sail wrap around the forestay, and parts of it where turning which shouldn’t have been. Tom greased it and this evening we hoisted the sail and it seems to be working again. No more wrestling!

I went to the dentist this afternoon, and annoyingly I need to go back next Monday which puts pay to our plans of starting our trip to Sardinia on Sunday. Leaving a few days later is OK though, as long as we’re there by the 18th July as that’s when Cass is coming to join us for a week – exciting!!

This afternoon we did a bit of shopping, we picked up a new regulator for the gas bottle and a few cool bits and pieces from Decathlon. Our fav is this solar shower, which is an 8 litre pump-action bag with a shower head attached which should help us reduce our water and energy consumption. We also got couple of lights for the cockpit, a ‘shortie’ wetsuit for me (I get so freakin’ cold so quickly!), a couple of 15 litre water carriers plus a couple of other bits. That’s our budget well and truly blown for a while!
