Cam & Tom's Sailing Blog

Tue 15 May

Today we wanted to get all the painting finished, which meant an early start and me helping get the first coat of primer on before work. Dressed in grubby painting clothes we headed down for breakfast, trying to ignore the quizzical looks from the other (far better dressed) hotel guests. We had breakfast then cycled to the yard for 0800.

I put in about an hour before getting changed (in amongst the mess), scraping splatters of primer off my face and heading to work.

Tom meanwhile persevered and managed to get a layer of antifouling on by lunchtime then together with the chandler create a contraption which will allow us to syphon water from the engine intake to feed our water maker, which is his main project for tomorrow. We also need to get the cradle adjusted to allow us to treat the 5 patches where the stands have been. In terrible Spanish we think we managed book that in for tomorrow morning…let’s see.

After work I headed back to the yard where Tom was very nearly done, both mentally and physically, with the final coat. To say he was relieved as he finished the final stroke is a major understatement.

At 2100 we headed to Vapiano for a much needed pizza and beer, then came back to the hotel. Strangely the staff recognised us this evening, nothing to do with Tom looking like he’s come straight off a building site I imagine.
